Calendar
Churches Together for Chipping Barnet holds a number of events through the year. While not exhaustive, this gives an idea of what to expect during a typical year:
January – Worldwide Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. Arranged by a different group each year, we usually celebrate between 18th-25th January, with a series of prayer lunches/breakfasts, as well as a united service, hosted by one of our churches. February – Lent Quiz. A fun evening that launches our Lent charity appeal, and an opportunity to pit our wits against each other. Usually on the Saturday before Lent begins
March/April – Good Friday and Easter Sunday. Good Friday starts with a united service at St. Mary the Virgin, and continues with a procession down the High Street to St. John the Baptist’s green space for an open-air service to mark Jesus’ crucifixion. Easter Sunday starts with an open-air sunrise service in King George’s fields. 2022 Poster is here
August – United evening services are held during August
December – We join in the Barnet Street Fair with a stall in the High Street, events in Wesley Hall, and the community carol singing
December/March – We usually take part in the borough-wide Winter Shelter for homeless people, hosting about 16 people overnight in our churches once or twice a week. This has continued through both Covid winters: while the accommodation has been provided by Barnet, we have provided evening meals and breakfast.
Our council (two representatives from each church) meet at least three times a year in February, May/June and October. Our AGM follows the February meeting, and elects the Executive committee, which acts to ensure the Council’s decisions are implemented, and events organised. All of our work is underpinned by our monthly prayer breakfasts – usually first Saturday in the month. May 7th 2022 – please email for details
