Underhill Children’s Centre has launched Makaton Sing and Sign, a series of six-week courses for mothers with babies aged six months to one year, replacing the Rhyme Time session that ran on Thursdays at Hope Corner.

The courses, which will run consecutively for one year, are aimed at supporting parents and carers to better communicate with their babies by using signs, accompanied by nursery rhymes and songs. The technique, which stimulates language development, has shown that babies who sign often speak earlier and have better communication skills.

Parents and carers are shown how to sign and are given resources that they can take home and use.

Sessions take place 1.30pm-2.30pm, Thursdays during term time, at Hope Corner.
